The Comfort Zone Syndrome

by

We are all living in a bubble. We each have our own bubble that we live within at all times. But whenever we do something difficult, we feel tension on our bubble. Sometimes the tension is too much and we happen to give up. It is a natural phenomenon, no need to be ashamed of it. It is human nature to leave certain scenarios that we find uncomfortable. This bubble is called the comfort zone, our resting state that we all love to be in.

I want you to ask yourself, have you truly ever left your comfort zone? Have you accomplished the goal that has been on your mind for years now, or have you even made any genuine progress on it? It is easy to say that you will start tomorrow, but ask yourself, has tomorrow actually arrived in your life? I’m not saying that you should immediately have success on your goals, but leaving the comfort zone is the first step, and arguably the most difficult, in coming close to your goals. In this blog I have compiled 3 ways that you can get out of your bubble.

  1. Just Get Started

Just getting the ball rolling is the first step to everything. I know from experience that it is a very daunting task to get started, but that is the most important step. Once you start working towards your goal, you will feel that the tension and guilt that you had earlier is gone. The main reason you even felt that type of guilt and nervousness in the first place was because you were ignoring a seemingly important task. Whatever it might be, it will definitely be hard, I won’t lie to you, but starting will give you more confidence, it will make you feel better and all and all you will finally be able to get going towards your goal. Rome wasn’t built in a day, neither was Amazon and Apple. It was those humble beginnings that these groups faced that truly made them as great as they are.

  • Consistency is Key

Now that you have started, you have completed the most daunting task. Now all that      needs to be done is maintaining that consistency. Make a schedule or write your objectives in a planner and make sure to stick to that plan everyday. This is easier said than done as everyone gets lazy once in a while. I will maintain my honesty throughout this article, it is hard to stick to the script every single day. It is important to schedule rest days as well in your schedule. Trust me though, you will not regret sticking to your schedule. Think about it like this, 10 years in the future, will you care more if you lost an hour of Netflix everyday or will you care more if you lost 1 hour of working out everyday per se. I think a great majority of people would choose the second option because you can watch Netflix anytime, but you can’t work out later in life once you become old. Make sure to do the things that you can’t do later right now. Always remember, you are the employee of your future self, the decisions you make today will affect you in the    future, so make good choices.

3. Plan Rest Days

My last tip is simple, make sure you rest once in a while. As humans it is impossible to keep working every single day. You will eventually burn out and that is nothing to be ashamed of. In reality, rest days will actually make you more productive. I will give you an example: imagine yourself working 2 hours well rested vs 4 hours while you’re incredibly tired. In which situation would you be more productive? Unless you are a person who can work off 1 hour of sleep, a majority of us will do better while we are well rested. In addition, burning out can be dangerous towards your goals as well as one day you might get so tired that you can’t take the pressure anymore and give up. Working continuously leads more people towards quitting than it ever will towards success. Robert Lewandowski, the number 1 Polish soccer player, has 3 rest days in his 7 day work week. That is an extreme in most cases but it goes to show that even people who are incredibly successful have rest days planned in their work week. It clearly shows in his soccer games that when he works out, he works out hard because he is the number one player within his league. This just proves that people are more productive when they are well rested, so make sure you plan rest days.

Once you keep your consistency up and follow your schedule, you will slowly start seeing results. If you keep growing and improving then soon you will notice that your bubble has popped. That is the true goal towards success, all the richest people have completely left their bubble and worked hard to get where they are. Let’s keep putting pressure on our bubble’s to make them pop in order to get out of that comfort zone.
